For all you vegetarians and even non vegetarians check out Sipz café.  With two locations one in Clairemont and also in Mira Mesa Sipz is a great vegetarian café.  Although their menu is 100% vegetarian it’s delicious as well as healthy and if you weren’t aware it was all vegetarian before you entered you could never tell the difference.  They offer a wide variety of Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and Italian dishes.  Not only do you get a great flavor you get it at an affordable price.  All their entrees are served in a bowl for only $7.95 and each entrée comes with a side of steamed rice.   My favorite dish is the Thai Curry Chicken made with a coconut curry, eggplant, potato, straw mushrooms bamboo shoots and soy chicken.  Not only are their entrees delicious but they also have a vegetarian desserts which are very good and good for you as well.

If you enjoy great Thai food this is a MUST to try!  A little smaller restaurant but it gets heavy traffic being located in the San Diego State area. The restaurant is very small peaceful giving you the posh dining experience without breaking the bank.  The service is great as well as the food. They have a great menu full of delicious curry’s as well as other signature dishes. My personal favorite is the “Green Curry with chicken” Each meal comes with white or brown rice.  For you vegetarians out there they also have mock duck and mock chicken so you can substitute that in and i have tasted them both there is really know difference they are both very good!  If you have time to head over during lunch try their lunch special which offers an entre of your choice and rice and either an egg roll or a dumpling all for under$8 cant beat that with a stick!

Quick Wok

10175 Rancho Carmel Drive, San Diego, CA

Its not the most extravagant of restaurants but it is high on taste and not so high on the price! Quick Wok  is delicious and very affordable when you are trying to save a buck. Located in Carmel Mountain, I will go out on a limb and say this is the best Chinese food money can buy in San Diego! Bold statement yes i know but the menu offers all kinds of different authentic options. For starters i would highly suggest the pot stickers with their special sauce simply delicious. They have a variety of main courses, but my favorite that i always go with and does not disappoint is the house special chow mien which comes with a lo mien style noodle with chicken beef and shrimp. Other notable dishes are the house special beef and orange chicken which are equally as delicious. Each main dish also comes with white or brown rice or can be upgraded to fried rice for an additional cost. The service is fast and great my only complaint would be that you don’t really have the option of dessert but that’s not really a big deal the food is so great you will probably stuff your face so much that you wont even leave room for it. Next time you are looking for good Chinese food which is very hard to find stop by Quick wok and you be the judge.

If you are passionate about authentic Mexican cuisine and have not tried Super Cocina, this is our disclaimer to you that we are not responsible for any additional weight you will gain after eating/reading this; you have now discovered your new favorite Mexican restaurant. Located on University Avenue in San Diego, Super Cocina is the most legit, authentic Mexican restaurant you will visit in San Diego.  Not only is the food authentic, but the service is too.  When you walk up to the counter you will likely be greeted by the owner or one of the friendly ladies who are ready to offer you samples of whatever dishes make your tummy growl.  This unique gem of San Diego is unlike any Mexican restaurant you will eat at.  Rotating over 180 traditional Mexican dishes, Super Cocina features over 30 dishes a day. Centered on the combination plate, you can choose from items on the menu or from the deliciousness of traditional meat –in- sauce dishes featured right in front of you.  Some of my favorites are the chicken in almond sauce, spicy pork, chicken in cilantro, and pozole. Just to name a few you can also expect to choose from traditional Mexican breakfast dishes such as chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, a la Mexicana, salseado), available all day.  Mainstays of the Super Cocina dishes are the carnitas, empanadas, pollo con mole, chile rellenos, albondigas and more; these are offered every day.  As I am a regular at Super Cocina, and truthfully I eat there about three times a week, I have my must haves each time I go. I highly recommend topping your rice with a bit of mole sauce…which is to die for!! I am also a huge fan of the albondigas (meatballs), the spices they use make for an incredibly tasty treat.  Whatever dishes you decide to go with, you can expect to leave very full and satisfied.  Best of all you won’t beat the price!

Dicresenczo’s Chicago on a bun has been serving San Diegans for over 25 years. It’s family owned and operated by a couple of transplanted Chicago families. We come from Chicago and the suburbs. We are Cubs and White Sox fans (and yes, we do get along, most of the time) as well as Padres fans. We are also Bears and Chargers fans.  But, more importantly, we are fans of true Chicago food – Vienna beef hot dogs dragged through the garden on poppy seed buns, Italian beef sandwiches wet, sweet and hot on Gonnella rolls, thin crust pizza cut into squares and deep dish pizza to die for – all served in a warm and friendly atmosphere just like we remember.  So put on your gym shoes, hop on the expressway and stop by for a taste of Chicago. You won’t be disappointed.
